Isn't it Amazing!

  1. I hate computers but I am constantly amazed by the way you can just type something in and up pops the information you seek.

I'm currently working on my band sampler and am a few entries behind (as usual!). However, I've been playing with my graph paper to set up the entries I want to stitch and felt, of course, that I must include a piece about the Queen's Jubilee. Bearing in mind the design I seek cannot be too large, I thought I might do a bit of written blurb and a nice crown. Searched in my books/magazines and couldn't find one 'fitting'. Then thought 'ah, I'll try the Internet' and just brought up Google and typed in 'The Queen's Crown in cross stitch.' Blow me - within a few seconds I found myself staring at a gorgeous little design - right size - free - from the Cross Stitch Collection magazine. I shall have a furkle with it changing one or two bits - e.g. it's stitched in yellow, so I shall change that to a gold thread and other bits depicting jewels I shall substitute with beads - all to give it a bit more oomph.

If you are ever looking for something yourself that is leading to being a fruitless search just bear the Internet in mind. Mind you, you are probably all brainier than me and are sitting there thinking 'what a plonker, I'd've gone straight on to the web anyway'.

Ah well, the cup of tea is now finished and my ten minute break and playtime is over. The vacuum cleaner is waiting for me downstairs as I'm trying to do the good housewife bit today.

At the NEC on Thursday so may see one or two faces around.

Glad you managed to find some inspiration for your band, Brenda! Have a great time at the NEC.

Brenda, you and me both, babe. I still find this computer lark amazing and marvel what it can do. Don't understand how it works, but the bits I am able to use, I find invaluable.
I even managed to get myself into the Itch to Stitchers yahoo group and nearly fainted when I placed pics into my album.
And the best thing is, it keeps us mad'uns in touch with each other during the time in between when we cannot meet.

Brenda, the internet is only good when you can get onto it. So far, in the last 8 weeks, we've had 7 engineers visit the house to try and sort out why our broadband isn't working properly, and they still haven't managed to do so!!! I'm completely fed up with the whole system. Anyway, I'm going to the NEC on Thursday as well, so if you see somebody limping around with a foot resembling a balloon, it'll be me. I've paid for my ticket, so despite the pain, I intend to be there. Hope to see you and maybe treat you to a coffee.

  6. Hello Barbara - just found your message - most frustrating when the internet is playing silly beggars. Right, so I now know to keep my eyes open for a little blonde bombshell with a limp tomorrow, although if anyone's buying coffee I must insist it's me. We shall also need 3 chairs, 2 for bums and l for an ankle, you can sit and rest it while I queue for drinks. Love Brenda

Have fun at the NEC. One of these days I shall make it up there, but what with my daughter's wedding, Rod's stay in hospital and now his mother's death and a funeral to sort out, there is another August gone by without trying hard.

  9. Sorry to hear the latest Brigitte. Can't remember if you are booked for Leicester but if so look forward to seeing you there. Monica (and Jean)

Regrettably I am not going to Leicester. DH still needs his stents done next month, and when he has recovered sufficiently from that trauma we can sort out the cancelled eye appointment. It would be sod's law that his aftercare will be just when I want to go away. I am going to be lucky if I can use my ticket for Ally Pally, the way things are going this year. I shall draw a big fat line under 2012 when it ends.

Oh Brigitte, you are having a horrible time this year, aren't you? We'll miss seeing you at Leicester, but I know you'll get through it intact, and we'll all be thinking of you, and we'll send you a postcard. I know I had a lovely time at the NEC and I hope that Brenda did as well. (And thanks Brenda, the coffee went down just fine).

  12. Hello Barbara - sorry I am only just responding - other stuff getting in the way at the moment.

I had a lovely day at the Festival of Quilts and bought some lovely fabrics. Desperately want to 'play' and haven't the time!...agony.

Hope your foot held out well, it was lovely to spend a bit of time with you over coffee.

Brigitte - hope all works out so you can come to Ally Pally. What a truly horrible time you are having at the moment. Thinking of you.

    Love to both - Brenda.

Funny thing computers. I work with them all day but even I forget that they are there for the useful stuff too.

Yesterday I took a look at the chart I'm going to do for a friends baby sampler. That was when I realised all the numbers were for anchor. When I first started cross stitching I got DMC threads in. So now I have a fairly large collection of DMC. I'm sure anchor are absolutely fine and everything, but it's not what I've got.

So I sighed, feeling defeated, sat down and put another episode of Star Trek Next Gen on...

It wasn't until this afternoon I realised that I could just put a search in the internet to find a conversion.

so obvious yet I didn't even think of it.

Andrea there is a colour converter in the Members area of the CSG web site. It gives conversions to lots of different threads.

    Andrea

There's a conversion facility on the CSG website, available in the "CSG Members' Studio".

Andrea, didn't realise you were a Trek fan!!! Ain't that a coincidence. I didn't think that I could be the only one out in "norm" land. We're going to have to have a little chat one day regarding certain conventions etc. Speak to you soon.

So pleased you had a good time. This internet business is indeed clever. I'm sitting here in hospital again with a drip in my right hand so unable to stitch, but catching up on all the gossip on my clever phone! Typing replies with only one hand are a bit slow though! Still, how many sleeps to Leicester? Alison xxx
