Following the weekend in Swindon I wonder if anyone has any ideas to help Jane with venues at a reasonable cost?
It seems Hilton Leeds want twice what we paid last year!!!!!
Someone at the weekend suggested a small country hotel that we maybe took all rooms in - or could we find a budget hotel and maybe a local small hall to use for classes -

    Any ideas?

I've signed up for the weekend in May at Pinks Barn. It's the first time I've done any thing like this and have no idea what to expect. Will everyone else be experts and does it tend to be the same people all the time? I'm basically shy and worry that I'll be sitting in a corner!

Hi! I don't know about Pinks Barns because I've never been there, but if it's anything like the weekends in hotels then you'll be fine! In my experience, no-one is left all alone sitting in a corner (unless you want to, of course!). Just go and enjoy it.

  4. Just read your message above Janet. Yes, twice the price is too much. I wonder maybe if it's worth pursuing the idea of approaching something like a College. Very often during the summer season whilst students are on summer break they rent out their rooms at reasonable rates. Maybe they could include a Common Room for stitching and if we were somewhere very central in a town we could eat out if necessary in the evening.

Stopped this for a moment as I suddenly remembered I had a bit of paper somewhere. Just found it. Now the London School of Economics for instance in 2008 advertised single rooms at £32 per night and offered b&b or self cater during Easter/Summer/Christmas. Might be worth Jane pursuing that idea.

  5. I like Brenda's idea of using uni accommodation or Janet's one of taking over a Country House hotel

What about trying the Holiday Inn chain of hotels. They might be more reasonably priced than the Hilton.

ooooh I'm very excited now as I've just booked to go to Leicester :-)
Hope to see lots of you there.
I'm staying over on the Sunday night as well to make a long weekend of it.

  8. I can share your excitement Andrea as I too have booked for the Leicester weekend just this morning. I am also staying Sunday night as I like the weekend to last as long as possible.

The weather at the moment is lovely, the garden's been given a lot of TLC so that's lovely, I'm catching up on some UFO's so that's great and now I have the anticipation of a nice weekend with the girls and stitching in front of me. As Pop Larkin would say it - 'perfick'. See you there. Brenda
