Hate to admit it but the pin keep won. It's been put away. I've got some cards to make so hopefully that'll do the trick!

Don't worry about letting the pin keep win. After brain surgery, I think you're doing really well just to worry about what to start. Take it easy, and just do little things, that don't tax the neurons. I bet your doctors told you that it would be a long recovery, so don't get too stressed if you can't get going. I bet everybody on the forum has started something, then realised they've been using two threads when it should have been one, or something else like that. I know for certain that I have. Good luck.

Two threads when it should have been one? Hmm, that rings a very noisy bell. Dingdong!!!!!

Yes, I admit it, I've done a bit of my darning sampler (the flower sampler book) in two threads instead of one, but hell its a thick petal, and its not going to be unpicked. We all do it don't we?

Hmm... Flower sampler book.....I've got that in my pile of things to do. I think I might get that out once my card is finished. Bad news though, my pain is coming back so I've had to get in touch with my surgeon. Really not a happy bunny.

Hang in there, Alison. Hope you get yourself fit again soon. Big hug.

Big hugs all round. Trust your surgeon - despite what some people say about them, they do know what they're doing. Take care and hope you get lots better really soon.

Thank you for all your good wishes. Off to the neurosurgeon tomorrow. Just hoping for an easy fix.
Posted 13 years ago # -
Good luck tomorrow hope it is good news for a "quick fix". Will be thinking of you.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you. Neurosurgeons are a strange breed, for example I used to work with one who looked like a farmer (and spoke like one) until he started guddling round in somebody's head, and then he turned into a miracle worker. Hope yours is as good, and will give you a quick fix, and good news. Will be thinking of you.

Hope things are alright. Let us know how you're getting on.

I've just spoken to my neurosurgeon (he's one of the good guys I think, goes off to Afghanistan to fix soldiers every now and then) and my x rays have shown up that the connections near my shoulder have worked loose so no current is getting to the electrodes on my brain stem, hence I'm in pain. I've got to have an operation to put it right and hopefully won't have to wait too long. Sounds like an excellent reason to not do any ironing to me!

It's a bit of an extreme measure to get out of doing the ironing, but I'm glad that they've found out what the problem is, and its not too serious. I know every brain operation is serious, but you know what I mean. Hope that things will soon improve, and he can fit your op. in before too long.

I'll let you know when I have a date for the op.

Have been following the messages on this and hoping that things will work out okay. The news now seems more encouraging; although I don't suppose for one minute you are relishing having to have another operation.
These days in hospitals though they seem to have these whizzy round things on long arms which serve as television, telephone etc. (quite expensive though it has to be said), but some of them can also do e-mailing, so when you go in and if you have one of these things use it to e-mail to the Forum and let us know the e-mail address for your bed - that way we can keep in touch with you so's you know we are all still with you. Love Brenda

Why didn't I think about that? I see the damn things every day, and have nearly knocked myself out on them on more than one occasion, when taking patients bak to the wards. You have to pay up front, but you can buy cards for 3 days, 1 week and longer periods. Most of them do e mail nowadays. As long as you don't use them for long phone calls, cos they are really expensive for that, they are quite good value. Good luck.

I don't think those at the Royal Free have email. I know they have tv and radio - I wouldn't have survived the summer without it. They are no that cheap, about £3 a day, but once you've been in about two weeks you get it for half price! I never used the phone thing as I had a good signal on my mobile. I have a BlackBerry so I got to my emails with that. I'll post my address on here when I know when I'm going. Thank you everyone for your support xxx

I've just found out that I'm going into hospital in Thursday 10th, having operation on Friday and should expect to be in about a week. My email is alisonormiston@aol.com and it'll come through to my BlackBerry. I promise to answer if anyone feels like writing. Panic has already set in.

Picked up on this Alison - our thoughts will be with you. To go into Panic-mode is just so awful; wish I had a magic wand. Will be in touch. Love Brenda
