    Hi,
This is my first post, I am very new to cross stitch, just finished my 2nd small project last night a lovely cross stitch card for my mums 50th.

My father passed away in june and he wrote me and my sister a poem called my two little girls.
I contacted a company who kindly converted the poem in to a cross stitch kit for me.
The pattern is 17 pages in total.

My question is where would you start. would you dtart from the middle of the fabric or start from page 1 and work your way through i think this would be easier for me, i just don't want to muck it up.

Any help or tips would be great, it will be a long project for me to do but i will post a pic when it is finished X

Hi Snebs. Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on finishing projects. Sorry to hear about the loss of your father, but what a fantastic legacy he has left you. 17 pages is a hell of a lot of stitching, so if I were doing it, I'd find the centre, and work from there. That way, you're guaranteed to have enough material top and bottom, provided you start with enough. I don't know about anybody else, but I run a tacking stitch from the centre up and down, and also tack across the width of the fabric, to give you a guide. Leave them in which will help, and then you can unpick them at the end of the project. Let us know how you get on with it, and good luck. I'm sure I'm not the only person who looks forward to seeing it when you've finished. Barbara

Hi Snebs. I agree with Barbara about starting in the middle. I read in some cross stitch magazine that there's a pen you can buy to draw the lines on the fabric and the line disappears after about 72 hours. Good luck with the poem and I hope you enjoy your stitching. Alison xx
