Hello, I am new to this form. I have been stiching for several years now and I love it. However, I am having a difficult time with this one thing that I just started to work on. It has over a 100 diffrent threads in the item and I am having a difficult time in organizing all the diffrent threads. I hope someone out there can help.
Thank you
Sharon

Hello Sharon - so many threads to sort! - it can be very daunting. In a situation like this my usual plan is to first take out all those threads most instantly recognisable - e.g. black, white. Then go for the shades in say - red. Usually in shades you have dark, medium, light. Always pull out one colour threads too - if in the list for instance you use only one shade of say brown. By going through a process of elimination you usually end up with the most difficult ones. Personally I find I end up with say 6 or 7 greens if there are a large number of threads to start with. Then wait for very good daylight and really look at them - if they are green - check if they are bluey greens or yellowy greens - again really you are weeding them out in a process of elimination. Don't get exasperated if you can help it; just work quietly and carefully and then all of a sudden you find you have finished. Bingo!
No doubt others will have their own way of doing it too so again you might get helpful hints from someone else. Good luck anyway.

I use an organiser box and plastic bobbins for the project I'm working on. For all my threads though, I use a ring binder and plastic wallets divided into 10 and I keep a skein of thread in each compartment. It takes time to sort it out but they look so pretty all in their place! As Brenda says though, there are many ways of organising threads and you just have to keep going till you find what works best for you,

How brave of you, Sharon, to tackle such an impressive project. When I run out of ready made thread organizers, I use plain whit postcards and punch holes along the side. You could make several and put all the same colours a separate card, writing the number and symbol alongside each hole, and keep the lot in a box. Although it is a little time consuming, it saves thread. Whenever I have a length left I pull it back through the hole on the card, especially when the shades are very close. Good luck with the stitching!
