Can anybody please explain to me, how, after slavishly following a pattern and getting the first side of the tablecloth absolutely perfect, the second side is now 30 stitches out?? One or two I could understand, but 30!! I've counted everything twice, made sure there are no unexplained gaps between the cups, and I still can't get the last cup in. I've put the corner cup in place, as everything is counted from them, but now I'm snookered. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. The pattern in question is 6023 from Les Bonheurs des Dames, should anybody want to have a look at it.

Impressive kit, Barbara, but I've no idea how you could be so far out!
Can you get creative and 'adjust' it at all?

No idea if I can or not. I've got a leaflet from the same place, with small coffee cups on it, one of which will fit, but it might look a bit odd. I think I'll have to leave it for now until I've done the other sides and see what it looks like. Oh well, I think I might just get on with my knitting!!!

I know what you mean. I did a Sue Hawkins cross stitch some years ago. There were a series of four with different flowers. They were divided into 4 with four sided stitch on one of these I got the four sided stitch wrong somewhere and one section was not square!! I counted, looked, counted, got Jenny to look when she came to visit. Jenny counted and couldn't find it, then I picked it up to put away after Jenny went home and I saw straight away where I had gone wrong. So putting it away for a while then looking again might be a good idea. Good luck with it any way.

I've found out why I'm so many stitches out! After I'd hobbled up to bed last night, disgusted with the whole thing and vowing not to do any more to it, my BS (Beloved Slave) sat down and counted the threads in each square, and found that there are three more per square in one side of the cloth, than there are in the other side. And as there are 10 squares per side, that explains the 30 extra stitches. What has really annoyed me is that there's nothing on the pattern to say that this is the case. His suggestion that I rip the whole lot out and start again, was met with complete disdain. It's only taken 5 years to get to this stage, so I think I'm just going to have to fudge the pattern and be a bit creative, and hope nobody notices the gap. Thanks for the suggestions anyway.

Well at least you know what the problem is now!
I think your best bet is a bit of creative adaptation :o)
