I am so disappointed, I can't come to Leicester. I booked to go to see blood brothers on the Saturday night for my sisters birthday the week before the date for Leicester was announced. I have been trying to work out how I could come to weekend and get back for theatre, and then back to Leicester. I dont think its going to happen.

Fiona and I booked, now trying to find out how to get there by train. So far from Berkshire/Surrey where we live it is into London (Paddington or Waterloo) then across London to St Pancras. The problem being I do NOT do the Underground. Still we have plenty of time to explore ways of getting there.

Jean, I'm not sure about getting across from Waterloo, but I'm pretty certain there's a direct bus route from Paddington to St Pancras. Can't remember what the number is, but it may be worth trying the tfl website and their journey planner. It can be a bit of a long-winded fiddle using their site but sometimes it can come up with the goods :-)

Jean, I should have done my homework first! According to Transport for London, the number 205 bus goes from Paddington to St Pancras, and the number 59 bus goes from Waterloo to St Pancras - hope this might help. Looking forward to seeing you in November, best wishes, Jane

Thanks Janet. Have also discovered I can go from Reading to Leicester on the coach for quite a reasonable price compared with the train. Can also go from Reading via Birmingham but prices look horrific. Still rerearching best way.

Hello Jean - I did discover some years ago that there is a bus service that runs round London doing only the major London rail stations in a circuitous route. I think at that time it was the S1 but it may be the 205 now and is the one that Jane N is referring to. May be worth Googling London Transport for more information; or even toddle down to your local rail station and get them to do the work for you!
I would also add that I shall meet up with Frances Green at St. Pancras and we travel to Leicester together so if you wish to join us let me know. Not sure yet what time we are travelling. I leave it to Frances to organise her train (based on how cheap a deal she can get) and I then just time my train to fit in with hers. It's nice to travel together and chat and also saves on the taxi fare to the hotel from Leicester station.

Yes it would be a good idea for you to get together and share the taxi costs both ways as when I went to Leicester a couple of years ago it was really expensive and fairly added to the cost of my weekend. I hadn't been before so didn't realise how far the train station was from the hotel! Really sad I won't be able to join you as Bradford in May was BRILLIANT!! Will be thinking about you all!

Thanks everyone for the advice. Brenda I will be travelling with Fiona as we have both booked and live near each other but if we are coming via St Pancras at same time would be great to meet up. It will depend what time we can get away on the Friday which trains/coaches we can get. Still need to do some more research on this. If the coach is at a convenient time might be a good option, as it is easy to get to Reading from my local train station and then the coach goes from Reading station according to info to Leicester coach station. Just need to find out where that is in relation to hotel. Will keep researching ways to get there next week.

Last time I went to Leicester I got hopelessly lost trying to find my way in to the hotel from the motorway and ended up halfway round the city.
This time I will get the directions from the hotel website!

Hi Jean - If the Fiona you are referring to is Fiona Dunbar then she has my home e-mail address. You can always contact me via that and in turn as soon as I know about Frances' trains I can contact Fiona direct as I also have her e-mail. If it doesn't all tally up then it doesn't, but it's worth an attempt and we have plenty of time to sort it out before November.
It's ten past 9 and I'm still sitting here in my dressing gown - lazy article. I've been time wasting this morning searching through all my old magazines looking for a Union Jack flag; 'bout time I got myself showered and ready to face the world. I see our Administrator - above - was on her machine sometime just after 7.00 - flippin' 'eck - who's she trying to impress? Obviously couldn't sleep again last night.

Hi Brenda - yes it is Fiona Dunbar. Went to the station today whilst in town to try to get some info. One guy dealing with someone with a querry/problem, no queue only 1 more person in front of me and another lady behind the glass dealing with tickets etc. Well when I got there she said "I'm at my "window" there are a lot of people (by now there were a number of people behind me) would you wait or write it domwn and I'll go through it with you later!!" Needless to say I'll try again another day.

Just re reading this and notice I said "Thank you" to Janet when it should have been Jane, sorry (I keep saying I've got dyslexic fingers) I have to read everything at least twice before I hit send and I still got it wrong that time. Still looking at ways to get to Leicester not got back to the station yet. Will try to do some more internet searching this week.
Look forward to seeing you all, anyone who is going to Pinks on Sept 1st see you then as Fiona, Jenny and I are going.Posted 12 years ago # -
I make it 43 sleeps now
Is there any one going who was at Jane's in June.
I'm on the scrounge. I decided to make the project into a large scissor pocket, but have run out of the thick perle & dark. If any one has any left I'd be very grateful.Look foward to seeing you all again

Has anybody else seen on the website, that it will cost £5.00 per night to park the car at the hotel, or am I being stupid and read it wrongly? Does Jane know about this charge, or do we get let out for free, for good behaviour?
Posted 12 years ago # -
I've been to Leicester twice and as far as I can remember I haven't been charged for the car park. I've emailed Jane to ask the question.
