  1. Well - how was it for you? - Ally Pally that is.

I've had a brilliant two days there and saw several people from the Guild.

Somehow I managed to miss Sally Hudson, although I had seen on the Forum you were there on the Thursday. I kept an eye out for you but no luck. On the way as I was leaving on the Thursday I was suddenly enveloped in a bear hug from behind - 'Oh Lord' I prayed 'Let it be Richard Gere or George Clooney' - but no, suddenly Brigitte's voice said 'Hallo Brenda' in my ear and I turned round and there she was. We chinwagged for a bit - that was lovely.

Day Two and I bumped into Sue just as I was homing in to the Fudge stall! Later I was greeted with a hug by Jane as I stood waiting at her stand for Beryl Hampson and her granddaughter. She showed me the newest project, which she'd sold out of on Thursday (!) but which will be in evidence for the Leicester weekend. (You'll need your money girls!).

I then bumped into Barbara Stone and her mum later on. I think Barbara had had 3 Weetabix for breakfast. Blimey - she might be only 4' 3" but she can't 'arf get a grip when she wants to give you a hug! Bristol's little blonde bombshell.

I left at the end of the day tired, broke, feet aching, but filled with a lovely glow at the thought of the bits and pieces I'd bought, a workshop which was really enjoyable, but especially the feeling of warmth from the people I'd shared some time and an affectionate hug with.

Oh dear, it's all over for another year. I feel quite teary......... Good job I'm seeing you all at Leicester in a few weeks time.

Ally Pally was very busy yesterday. Got really hot and bothered by the end. Managed to get a Birth Sampler from the Historical Sampler Company for expected grandson (in mid Nov) My daughter requested no Winnie the Pooh or characters, no Noah's Ark!! So got an animal sampler but not an ark. Went with Fiona, her aunt in law who is visiting from Australia and another friend from Fiona's stitch group. It was a good day but like you said Brenda, tired, broke, aching feet. It was definatley take away for dinner!!
    Yes see you in Liecester.

  3. Sorry I missed you Brenda. I caught up with Brigitte and had a long chat. My daughter and I had a lovely day but very tiring.Saw lots of lovely things and got a few more ideas. All I need now is time to put the ideas into action.See you at Leicester. Sally

I don't know what went wrong!!!! I went to Ally Pally, saw Jane, saw Brenda (and I'm 5'4" not 4'3") escorted my mother around, and encouraged her to spend her money, but when I got home, the only thing I'd bought was two reels of cotton, two teas and a book on how to crochet for my niece. I didn't feel ill, I just didn't buy anything. Help, I think I'm getting sensible in my old age!!!!! See you all at Leicester.

Well not quite as good as you but got shopping list plus only 1 other item. I did resist lots so perhaps we are both getting sensible or cautious in our old age!!!!

Boring isn't it? Getting old I mean. Anyway Brenda, you can't leave me in suspenders like that? What project has Jane got now that she's sold out of?

Hi Barbara, just in case Brenda doesn't see your last post for a bit (and we can't have you left in suspenders for too long, can we?!), I can tell you that the project was the Beasts & Flowers Scissor Stand that Jane gave us a picture of on Facebook about a week ago. I'm not surprised she sold out of the stock she had at the show, as on the CSG stand it looked both really pretty and very practical - lots of pockets for all those essential bits and bobs we all accumulate next to us when we're stitching. Definitely bring your chequebook! See you soon, I hope (Leicester?), love Jane xxxx

  8. Who's getting old? not us lot surely - (and what appalling bad grammar Mrs. Midgley - your old English teacher would be horrified to see wot you have just wrote!)

Getting 'sensible' is just as bad - I ain't never gonna get sensible - it's boring!.

So, out of this little conversation - that leaves Barbara wearing suspenders - well, probably Mr. Stone would like that.

No, seriously now - maybe you never got the chance whilst at Jane's stall - to see her latest magic project. I really don't want to spoil the niceness of it by trying to describe it here, but it was something she pointed out to me that was taking pride of place in her little secure cabinet - gorgeous, gorgeous. She said it had been so popular that the packs she had got of it were sold out on Thursday but that she fully intended to bring it to Leicester with more packs made up. You will, therefore, get the chance to see it then. When I saw it on the Friday I groaned in both pain and pleasure. Pleasure, because it is so pretty and I want one! and pain because I thought 'Oh blimey, and I haven't even started the Fleur Etui yet and now I want to add the next 'must do' to the collection of things I have at home.

There's some serious head-banging going on in Crewe - all I want is a bit of time to indulge myself, is that so much to ask for?

Roll on Leicester. Yay!! Love to all, Brenda

  9. Well, I'll be jiggered - Jane must've been doing her message as I was doing mine (above) as hers wasn't there until I pressed 'Send Post'. She was just 6 minutes in front of me - (you will note how good I am at arithmetic - it's all that counting I do with cross stitch); but now you know something of the new project.

So now I shall behave myself and get to bed. Way past my bedtime and once it hits midnight I shall turn into a pumpkin. Can I hear cheers from everyone? - oh yes, you are saying, turn into a pumpkin - please, they don't talk!..........

Sorry to pip you to the post, Brenda, it wasn't intentional. I just didn't think anyone else was likely to be up and logged on so late at night - glad there's another night-owl out there! And don't change or turn into a pumpkin, please, as it's lovely reading your posts and life would be much more boring without them :-)
Looking forward to seeing everyone at Leicester (not long now!), Jane xxxx

  12. Hi All
Brenda please don't turn in to a pumpkin or who is going to make us laugh at Leicester.
I want the new needle fold thing that is on the wesite & I haven't started Flowery Mead yet!! or finished the last 4 projects from weekends & Norway

Jane N do you (or Mummy) have any of the Oliver Twist or dark green silk left over from the project we did at Janes' in June. I decided to do the picture twice & underestimated the amount of thread.

Do you think Santa could bring me a large bag of time ?!?!
If he could manage an extra large one I'll share

    Helen

ps - only 16 sleeps now

  13. Oh no! There was I drooling over the new project of Jane's, with feelings of guilt because I haven't even opened Fleur Etui yet and then Helen has to go and mention Flowery Mead! You must've surely been in my gang in Stratford east London when I grew up as a child and little horrors that we were, we took pleasure in giving 'chinese burns' to each other - well, Helen, you've just done one of those to my brain as my Flowery Mead hasn't seen the light of day for some time. Ooh you can go off people.

I'll forgive you, however, as you've just told us we have only 16 sleeps to go to Leicester and in the meantime I will just tell myself that the Flowery Mead in Crewe has just gone into a natural hibernation period for a few months.

By the way I hope you are all remembering to pack your comfy shoes for Leicester. If we are wandering around Hardwick Hall all day on Saturday - you're gonna need 'em! Can't wait. Isn't it getting exciting.

    16 sleeps to Leicester!
Cool, but eek at the same time!
I've set myself a target to get my current knitting project done by Leicester, and so far I've only sewn up one side. Aunty Beryl will confirm this as I did it at Craft Club last week. One week on and the rest of it is still in the bag I took to 'club.
I finished the flowery mead in June, then did a small Blackwork Tulip. Then..... nothing.
It's so hard to find the time. Having said that I was in my flat all afternoon yesterday and still didn't get my knitting out.

I've got kits from Glasgow, Swindon and Bradford all part finished and need to get finished. I've enjoyed them all just need to get my bum into gear.

So Leicester. I'll even wear the Cardy - whether I finish it or not! That should spur me on!!

Helen, I think I have got both the Oliver Twist (it was just the thin OT thread, wasn't it?) and the dark green 1704. As usual (and to Jane's despair!), I changed the dark green colour to coincide with other things I've stitched that Jane's designed, as I have a mania for things to match - my personal vice, but a harmless one, I think! Anyway, if you can wait until Leicester, I'll try and make sure I bring them with me :-)

Don't do facebook, so no idea what the project looks like, but it sounds lovely. Cheque book and credit card are already packed, so I can indulge myself. Might have some time to make it in the future. Suspenders are now put away until I need them again. And Brenda, don't you dare turn into a pumpkin, - if I hug you as one of them, I won't get a hug in return, and I need them. See you at Leicester

    Posted 12 years ago #
  17. Hi Jane N
I think it is both thicknesses of OT.
I remember seeing your project looking more orangey than purple.
I don't see any harm in wanting your own colours - I keep changing the projects to suit what I might actually use them for.
Leicester is quite soon enough for me.

As it's Friday that means 2 weeks today until Leicester :) :) :)
