  1. I'm having a lovely week - hope you are too.

I was at the Severn Valley Railway at the weekend - (I volunteer there). We had a lovely lot of diners on the Sunday lunch time train, so that was fun. Spent most of Monday tidying garden beds on the platform at Bridgnorth, then came home at tea-time. Tuesday morning I did my usual stint at the local RSPCA cattery and as I left at lunchtime decided to call in at Stapeley Water Gardens to pick up some ericaceous compost (another hobby - gardening). As I wandered round checking the bags for what I wanted I could hear a lot of quacking so went through the archway to the pond-y bit. There in front of me were lots of dear little brown ducks nosing around in the mud at the water's edge, quacking away to themselves and each other. I had to stand totally still as they came all round my feet. The sun was shining it was quiet and peaceful, apart from the quacking and I had that sense of being suspended in time with this delightful moment. Doesn't half lift the spirits!

Asda's on Wednesday morning dispelled that so we'll gloss over that bit. So, here we are now and it's Thursday morning. The garden looks so green and smells heavenly with the rain we've had, and I've just had a telephone conversation with Mr. Greenoff who referred to me as 'one of life's trouble makers' - mm, p'raps we'll gloss over that bit as well; but at the end of our conversation I am now assured of my place at Bradford in November.

I've worked hard on the domestic front this morning. His nibs wants scrambled egg on toast for his lunch - I'm just gonna squash a banana in some bread for mine. After that and several cups of tea I shall sit and STITCH this afternoon!!

Yes, this is definitely a good week.

  2. I AM CALM AGAIN NOW!!!!

Well, I obviously tempted the Gods after posting on the forum this morning. Sat on the sofa in the conservatory - in my usual position with legs tucked under me - and stitched. Suddenly the flowerhead was incomplete but had crashed into the bit of stitching to the side of it. Wailing and gnashing of teeth could be heard in Crewe. I'd done something wrong. Well I found it - an omission of three harmless little green stitches (stalk of the flowerhead) - but it necessitated undoing about 150 others to get back to put it all right. Oh God, we all know this moment don't we. My instinct was to chuck it on the floor and jump up and down on it in rage and fury. I couldn't even do that as my legs had gone dead on me because I'd been sitting on them.
My husband didn't help. On hearing the wailing he called out (from his study) 'Any chance of a cup of tea'. 'NO' I yells. Silence - then the study door slowly opened and a face gingerly appeared - 'Something wrong' he says. 'Something wrong? SOMETHING WRONG??' I yells again.....Oh, he says, It's me making the tea then is it'.

Oh, Brenda, my heart goes out to you. I hate unpicking, too. However, I console myself that at least with stitching you can correct the mistake and nobody is any the wiser in the end. If it were sewing I would have mountains of wrongly cut up material which cannot be glued back together. Therefore I stick with stitching.

  7. Hello Everyone - me again and it's one day on from yesterday's debacle. Isn't it lovely to have words of encouragement and such a sense of 'sharing' from other forum members when stitching stuff goes awry. I'm now all unpicked and re-stitched so I'm back on track. so - onwards and upwards.

Jean - so sorry to hear about your back - what a nuisance as well as painful. Do hope it improves soon.

Well, Himself is off to the railway again this weekend; I don't need to go as I'm not rostered for anything. I'm staying at home and doing more stitching (hopefully) and having a laid back couple of days. I might do a bit of gardening as well if only God would put his watering-can away. I shall catch up on some television programmes. Just wish I'd thought to lay in a store of something large and chocolatey! Hope you all enjoy your weekend as well. Bye for now.

Well, there you are, all is well with the world again. Yes, it does help to let off steam somewhere where you are understood. DH would not understand the frustration with a needle and thread unless it was linked to a motorbike. The fool is trusting me to do the shopping tomorrow while he is checking some route on the motorbike. There definitely will be something full of sins in my trolley and I shall have eaten it all before he gets home. I shall have to do a bit of downloading of photographs tomorrow to get upt to date and clear the cards. Grandson No. 3 is coming to stay next Tuesday and we are taking him out on a holiday treat Wednesday, so need to be able to take lots of pics. Can't wait.
    Have a relaxing weekend.

You all sound as though you need the weekend to relax and calm yourself down! Mind you I do as well. Have had arguements with Mother every day for the last week - why doesn't she believe I know anything about the way the NHS is run? After all, I've only been a nurse for 30+ years, but according to her I know nothing, so went up into the loft (aka the workroom) to make hats. Not a good idea when tense, so having ruined three, came down the ladder, and after a strong coffee took up the stitching. Well either I can't count or there aren't enough holes in my bit of linen, so decided enough was enough, and gave up. Maybe when I'm calmer I shall be better. I'm off to the Festival of Quilts on Thursday, and going birdwatching at the Rutland Bird Fair over the weekend, so hopefully, unless the heavens open and I get soaked, I shall be completely calm by next Sunday, and my mother will believe I know things and ..... Okay so I'm dreaming, but it's nice to know that there are other people in the same situation as me. Can't even cheer myself up with a glass of wine and something chocolatey, cos I've got to go and see the dietician next week, and she's bound to tell me off. Oh well, back to my butterfly. This time, there are going to be enough holes in my bit of linen, and I will be able to count. Have a nice weekend.

Oh, so you know stuff about the NHS? Well, if you don't know by now, you will never know. It does get frustrating with family, doesn't it. Keep your cool and take a sloe gin. Have a good time bird watching. Birds are like Orientals to me, they all look the same unless they are a Robin.

Well I only know stuff about the NHS cos I've worked in it for 30+ years!! I've grown old in its service. Sloe gin sounds nice - hmmm thats a good idea Brigitte. The weekend could be getting better!!!

Just got back from the caravan, a lovely restfull week. After a good nights rest (and several hours with an ice pack) oh plus a glass or two of wine back was much better by Saturday. Spent most of the week just sewing, reading and making dolls clothes (knitting) for my "inherited" grand daughters birthday (4 years old on Sept 1). Husband arrived back on Tuesday afternoon having gone to work for meetings on Monday and waited for Sky to be installed on Tuesday AM. He then spent the rest of the week studying for a course next week and complaining "It's mind numbing!! This is so not me!! It's a course in how to nit pick!!" I think I'll move out next week.
Decided the sewing needed to be : get out some of the projects started at Jane's and in the UFO pile. Finished one and am on the way to finishing another but have had to do some "reverse working" too, I think I had some of the same problems as Barbara there definately didn't seem to be enough holes until I descovered I'd put in an extra stitch on one of the flowers in a narrow band sampler. Am planning how much stitching I can get done before school starts again.

The weekend did get better, and without the aid of any sloe gin - although it rained and I got wet, I saw some lovely birds,(Ospreys - the entire family of Mum, Dad and three chicks), arranged something for my holiday (with a discount which is always helpful) had a long chat with my sister and made some arrangements for cooking for a family visit, and although I had to come back home and go to work, I did manage to get a bit of stitching done, and this time I did have enough holes!
