Hello everyone, I am new here and have just joined up this very moment. I have been cross stitching now for nearly a year, and I absolutely love it. I have even taken part in Round Robins and many other exchanges.

How lovely of you to join us. Be prepared for a certain type of madness here, though. We are all crackers about stitching!

Welcome Stephie. You'll soon be as completely mad about stitching as we are. I've got so many new friends through stitching, and you will soon have lots more as well.

Brenda, well, really, would I think such a thing, let alone say it? Well, yes, I would. You know me too well.

Don't let this put you off, Stephie. We may be crackers, but lovely with it and very kind and helpful and sympathetic and funny and generous. Need I go on?

Stephie, welcome. I'm from the US, and have really enjoyed Jane's site. She is very patient with me. LOL CSG has also gotten me into trying new stitches and weave counts. Through Jane's book, I have fallen in love with linen. So, be prepared to expand.

Hi Stephie, You will soon get to know lots of us through the Forum. I stitch lots of Jane's things but particularly enjoy samplers these really make me try new stitches and techniques. Am finishing off a project started at one of Jane's classes which is mainly Hardangar with some cross stitch and a few other stitches it is turning out really well. Then I suppose I had better sort out some unfinished projects for that big "C" occasion and try to finish them this year!!

    Hi Stephie,

I'm fairly new also but everyone here is so welcoming and helpful that the newness goes away pretty quickly and Jane is always so helpful (even with my silliest questions). I posted my first question to the Forum a couple of weeks ago and was so pleased with the excellent advice and responses I received. Jane's kits, books, etc. are all so beautiful and helpful.

I started cross stitching about a year and a half ago to help me quit smoking - worked like a charm and I am smoke-free! But now I'm addicted to stitching! My sister says she is willing to have me paper her house with my stitching as long as I don't smoke. Also, no one ever died from being addicted to stitching.

I love the challenge of learning new stitches and techniques. Plus there is the added advantage of that wonderful sense of accomplishment when you finish a project. I just completed my first mini band sampler that included hardanger and pulled thread work. I was so proud (and relieved) when after completing the hardanger that the piece didn't fall apart in my hands! I'm eagerly anticipating Jane's book "Hardanger for the Horrified." Don't you just love that title? My next challenges are to try my hand at designing (just ordered the iStitch program) and to learn to love blackwork.

    Welcome again!

Well done for quitting the nasty habit of smoking. It just does not go with beautiful stitching. I would happily murder anybody who were to foul my stitching stuff with the horrible stench of smoking. Keep it up. Just think of all that extra money for stitching stuff, if you don't spend it on ciggis.

Wedgewood, awesome feat. I know because I quit smoking Sept. 17th, 2008. I don't think non-smokers realize that it's truly hard (I smoked for 42 years.)and not all smokers can quit cold turkey, we're all different. But I have succeeded like you have. I just keep telling myself that I"M in control, not the cigs. alas, the dern weight gain.

    Hello,

I've just joined too, and have just finished my very first cross stitch. I bought The New Cross Stitchers Bible last week, which is very good, but I'm sure there's lots of questions I'll still want to ask, as I expect you will, so we can ask together and not feel so daft :)

Kat, there are no daft questions. Stupid answer, yes, but never stupid questions. Often there are others who have the same problem, but hold behind the bush, and some brave soul finally posts the question, hey presto, lots of answers, lots of happy people.
