I am new and self taught. I just learned how to do the half cross and go back over having every thread face the same way. It made a huge difference. I am wondering if anyone else loves to do samplers? I have found them and I am hooked! This winter I am going to start on Christmas stockings for my children( there are four), does anyone have any advice?

Hi, welcome to our group of addicted stitchers. Samplers are my favourite thing to stitch especially band samplers and I have lots of Jane's ones in my "to do" and UFO piles! Plus quite a few finished ones. I have not made Christmas stockings other than little ones to hang on the tree. I made one each for me, my husband and daughter some years ago. They were quite quick to do and were big enough to hold a small gift. I keep thinking about making a big one but I'm sure it would be like my Lavender and Lace Santa picture still in the UFO pile 6 years later!! As you have 4 to do it might be worth thinking about stitching a cuff to go round the top of the stocking as this would be quicker.

Welcome to our merry band of stitchers.
Jean already voiced what I was going to suggest about stitching just a band to attach to a stocking, as you have to get 4 of them done by the big day (I dare not spell out the Ch... word yet). Good luck.

Don't worry Brigitte, they're trying to arrange the departmental Chris... dinner already. Thank goodness for holidays, I'll only have three weeks to build up to it when I get back to the country. By the way, welcome Tawnya.

Hello Tawnya I too am hooked on Samplers, I have done a few, mostly baby samplers, I am currently finishing an Historical Sampler company chart for my latest grandson Aaron
he is six months old now so I had better crack on with it or he will have started school before I've done it!!

    Hi Tawnya,

I'm new also, self-taught, and just finished my first band sampler (a mini). Count me as addicted to the band samplers also.

    Welcome!
