Hi Anne Marie . Most cross stitch magazines show the basics but Jane Greenoffs Cross stitchers Bible gives more detailed instuctions . It also gives details for other stitches such as Hardanger and drawn thread work . Even though I have been doing cross stitch for many years I still refer to Janes book from time to time .
Welcome to the forum ,I am sure you will be given many more tips and help from other members . Beryl

Welcome to the forum Anne-Marie. I agree with Auntie Beryl on everything she says. The Bible is always to hand if I need it, and it's never failed to answer any question I may have asked it. Good luck with your cross stitch.

    Welcome to the madhouse, Anne-Marie.
It will become very obvious to you that once you have looked into Jane's Bible you will want to do the other counted stitches, too. It is very helpful to use a piece of material of low count and keep trying out the stitches until you feel confident to do them on 28 ct linen or Jobelan. Good luck. And if you have any questions, someone here will always have an answer - some will be more sensible than others, but an answer just the same.

  5. Hi Anne-Marie
There is also Jane's Stitch Book, which is lovely as it lies flat on the table and has really clear pictures in it
This link takes you to it in the CSG shop - http://www.thecrossstitchguild.com/Shop/Product.aspx?product=452

I'd like to add that one of Jane's cross stitch 'starter' kits would also be a good idea as you have chart, fabric, threads and a needle, plus instructions, at very little cost. And a sweet little picture at the end of it!
