I use inches as well, so do I count as an 'old un' now?
Posted 9 years ago # -
Most definitely - centimetres were always referred to as "those funny foreign measurements" by my dad, and I'm afraid I have to agree with him. Can't work in metric!
How many sleeps is it now Christine?

Still in double figures, folks - 11 sleeps to go.

Still remember metric style money being introduced. Going on a theatre trip with sixth form at school given cost in old pounds and pence my friend came out with "OK how much in this new Mickey Mouse stuff then?" Centimetres have always been foreign even though have had to teach for years!!

You blame my Mum for me working in imperial measurements - learnt them all from her
Adding up in metric is easier, but I just can picture them in my mind
I still do all the old weights as wellLeicester may be next month, but it's also next week now

Never had any problem with decimalisation - that's just 5's and 10's to me, but weights and measures has me scratching my head - I usually end up having to work something out as 'bags of sugar' - and measurements in terms of height and width etc. - well, I only know 1.2 m. and that's because that's all I can cope with in a swimming pool!! Anything more than that - because of the fact I don't seem able to stay afloat treading water - and I know there's a distinct possibility I could drown. (Mind you, there are those who can be heard to utter.....'if only'.........)

Quite agree about weights and measures - I'm not brilliant with them either. But metric measurements - well, I was making my pantomime costume this morning, and suddenly realised I was using both imperial and metric (not at the same time I hasten to add), so maybe I'm not so old fashioned as I think I am.

Didn't really have a problem with decimalisation it was just my friend with the cheeky comment to the sixth form director. Weights and measures are still a bit of a problem. I know that 113 grms is equivalent to 4 ozs. Now I am not teaching any more don't have to worry about heights, weights and measures any more!!!
