Call me tight-fisted if you like but after having a mad quilting episode last year I have accumulated quite a few reels of hand quilting thread in scrummy colours. And I was thinking: would it be ok if I used it to do crossstitch with if i doubled it up in the needle, could i do my out lines with it, could i practise blackwork with it so i dont waste my stranded threads? Would i be committing a criminal offence and get kicked out of the CSG if i did this ?

I have the same problem. I wouldn't use it for cross stitch, but use it for the backstitch - think it would look alright. Go for it girl. Its your cross stitch, and I don't think we ever chuck anybody out for using their initiative.

Barbara, how dare you even think you would get kicked out. Stitchers don't kick, it's footballers who do.
Recently a stitcher of the German forum showed a sampler which she had done on 18 ct Aida in sewing thread and it looked absolutely lovely. It was in two colours and she had exactly the right shade of Guetermann's, so went for it. Stitching is a craft and so you are quite withing your right to be crafty and use what you've got.

My motto is, if it looks alright, then go for it. Wish I could say the same for my pathwork - I've ripped it out three times already, and only started it this morning at my City and Guilds course. But I totally agree Brigitte, sitching is a craft, and the more of us who do it, the more ideas we can share.
