Christine did you ever get your Radio Times?
It’s cold but sunny today, but at least it’s not raining, as all our rivers are overflowing in Taunton, and the last thing we want to have to worry about is flooding. However, went out the side door to get some logs yesterday, and discovered one of the down pipes is blocked, so guess who’s going to have to get mucky sorting that one out?
The prospect of a third lockdown isn’t one on which I wish to ponder. Hopefully everybody will be sensible at Christmas, the plague won’t spread, the poor hospital staff will have time to draw breath before they start on the backlog of cases they have, and we can all return to normality next year. (Whatever normal means nowadays). Well, I can dream can’t I?

Hi Barbara! No we didn't get our Radio Times delivered but my husband was so fed up of me whinging about it that he went out this morning and bought one

Who knows what "normal" is anymore?
Posted 4 years ago # -
I hope you are going to complain - after all, you’ve paid for it already.
Normal to me is being able to go to weekends and meet all my friends again. And I’d be able to work on the trains again. What’s yours? (And don’t say a pint!)Posted 4 years ago # -
LOL Barbara, you know I only drink wine (and not by the pint!)
The best 'normal' for me would be a CSG weekend, meeting up with all the stitching friends I haven't seen all year. Fingers crossed for next year...

Quite agree - we’ll have to share a bottle (or two) next time we meet, (with other friends as well) which hopefully won’t be too long now!

Normal for me is -
Listening to the church bells on a Sunday morning (when I'm home)
CSG weekends with my stitching friends
Camping weekends with all my bike friends
Going to the club for a drinkCan't wait for all that to be able to happen again

Morning everyone
OK who is in Tier 4? We are in Berkshire as is Fiona just across the border in Surrey. As I put it “house arrest” again!!! We weren’t planning any Christmas bubbles as Judith has her step daughter and we can’t accommodate them all as she can’t accommodate us as well as Yasmin. We did a quick present exchange on Friday when she was collecting Yasmin from St Albans. She did a detour to meet us.As for normal goodness only knows when we will get back to anything like that. But like most of us normal is being able to meet friends and family without lots of restrictions. A CSG weekend, going to the caravan whenever we like without restrictions and being able to go out for the occasional meal.
Still have fingers and everything else crossed (not eyes as I couldn’t see to do my stitching and knitting) for Swindon but it is looking less and less likely.
Used my Christmas and birthday money from Jeff’s mum to treat myself to something from Jane’s Treasures website.

Oh - isn't it just awful for those in tier 4 - and house arrest sounds a good way to describe it Jean!
As for 'normal' - well my definition of normal is to just look for 'freedom' - then that covers everything I usually do which constitutes normal in my life.
Never mind - it's the shortest day tomorrow so even though we don't see any difference for a bit at least we know we shall be moving forward in terms of light and Spring - and that can only be good.
I hope you realise Jean you've given us all a teaser with your last sentence.......we all want to know now what the Treasure is that Jeff's mum has treated you to!!!

Jean - I second Brenda's request to know what 'Treasure' you've bought (nosey, that's us)
Posted 4 years ago # -
Ok you “nosey” lot. I bought The Jewel Garden Sweete Bag with Notes and Needle Book. It was only one in stock when I looked as soon as I received the email from Jane so I snapped it up quick.
Shall enjoy it as it’s mainly cross stitch and add the beads where you like when finished stitching. If we get to Swindon I might have it finished for “Show and Tell”.Hope that answers your curiosity.
Back to making some place mats and coasters for us for Christmas. Made some for Judith and the family and some for Jeff’s brother and sister in law, our nephew and Jeff’s mum who will be spending Christmas dinner together. Sitting in our nice warm conservatory.

Oooo Jean, how lovely. And how lucky to snap it up - Jane's Treasures tend to fly out of the door before you blink! I treated myself a while ago with the 'Thread Thief' hussif kit, but I've not made any sort of start on it yet. Her stuff might be at the premium end of expensive, but it does come beautifully packaged.

Well, we are still in Tier 2 here in Somerset at the moment, but my brother who lives in Essex, is in 4, and is disgusted, because they haven’t had a case of Covid in their area at all. But because they are surrounded by some areas who have it, they are in lockdown again. It’s going to be a very quiet Christmas here, no visitors at all, so I’ve done my shopping for food, and I don’t intend to leave the house again for the next week, unless the weather improves, and I can go for a walk.
Jean, your treasure sounds lovely, and I shall look forward to seeing it whenever we can get back together again. The way things are going, I can see the next weekend will be a show and tell weekend, as everybody will have so much to show off. We won’t get any stitching done at all!Posted 4 years ago # -
I thought I'd put a comment on here, but can't have
I have the faux Ivory needlecase to do, but keep looking at the Sweete bag. I also like the new ivory shell.
As the furlough scheme has been extended to the end of April I'm not sure Swindon will be on - keeping my fingers crossed for itHope you all have a lovely Christmas however you manage to celebrate it

I have the Faux Ivory Needle Case too. Hoping my eyes will let me do them although admit the fabric looks fine to me at the moment. My nNew Year projects.
Well I thought Kings College Hospital must have inside knowledge when they wrote to tell me that my February appointment would be a telephone consultation and that was a couple of weeks before all this latest scare started!!!!
Being in Tier 4 I have had communication from both government and the local council telling me I am back to shielding as considered “clinically extremely vulnerable” so basically only allowed out for a walk with Jeff and to attend medical appointments. Definitely feels like house arrest.
I agree Helen Swindon does seem to be getting less likely but like you have fingers crossed.
Anyway hope everyone has sa good a Christmas as possible.

Well, we’ve gone up to tier 3 now, so we are also under house arrest of a sort. Hope everybody has as good a Christmas as they can, and hope to be able to see you all next year - sometime!

Hello girls,
Just want to say Happy Christmas - especially to those for whom I have no address and haven't sent cards.Been having a little stitching session this afternoon and I swear I could feel an extra couple of minutes of light still at the end of the afternoon. It's been a bright sunny day so that probably explains it really, but I'm telling myself that now we've gone past the shortest day we are turning to the light and things have started looking up.
Virus-wise it's looking pretty dire at the moment, but I'm not allowing myself to think about that. Don't know how long it will be before we all get our vaccinations, but again we shall all feel more positive when that takes place.
Haven't seen or heard any news today, but I hope very much that the poor lorry drivers stuck at the Kent coast have now started a slow move to take up ferry places.
Despite all the miserable and negative press reportage on empty shelves and lack of fresh produce, I went to our Asda to do some shopping yesterday morning for final bits and pieces and it was fine - plenty of lettuces etc.- so once again, it seems the media is hyping things up...it sells newspapers...... I know they are anticipating shortages next week but there's time for things to settle down a bit in my opinion; and most of us anyway probably has a houseful of stuff to eat, so if we get to the end of our tomato supply or something we are hardly going to starve are we...... oooh er, my biggest fear is what will happen if France and Germany can't get our threads across the channel to us...... hope we've all got a big To Do Box full of complete kits/charts so we don't run out of things to stitch......... maybe I should've posted a letter to Santa .......

Cheshire will be in Tier 3 from Saturday
But on the bright side, my copy of the Radio Times finally turned up today, together with some cards, all of which had been delivered to a neighbour by mistake

Okay, I want some advice! Father Christmas, acting on words spoken to my beloved, bought me a couple of Fat Quarters of Cashel for Christmas. I've got a couple of kits to be getting on with, but I want something different! Anybody got any suggestions?
Hope you all had a good Christmas (well, as good as it could be - all mine seemed to be was cooking, washing up, and watching some very indifferent television programmes)!Posted 3 years ago # -
Morning everyone
Well that’s Christmas and my birthday over with. Very quiet this year. At least we got to see Judith and the boys before Christmas even if it was only for about an hour. Father Christmas brought me a nice surprise present of a lovely Dyson hairdryer. A new laptop was my birthday present. Have been sorting that out. Jeff set it all up for me and transferred data from old machine but I had to “clean up” old mail etc. Old laptop was cleared and given to Judith for oldest grandson for his homework and in particular if he has to home school again. Judith needs her laptop as at moment she is doing a Teaching Assistant level 3 course which is on line plus classroom experience which she is doing as a volunteer being supported by youngest grandsons school.
Had emails from my cousin and pen friend in the USA. My cousin’s children were able to spend Christmas with her in Alabama but my pen friend in Ohio couldn’t see her family so seems USA is in similar situation to us.
Well Barbara been thinking about your problem was a bit brain dead at first but have had a thought after looking at Jane’s website how about a note book cover? The other thought I had was what about some small motifs to work into one of your lovely quilts? Don’t know if this will help or if I am totally off the mark.
Well let’s hope 2021 gets better as the year goes on it doesn’t seem to be starting very well so far other than news of another vaccine. Will have to find out from Kings if I am allowed to have any of them. Have had various communications from Government and local authority telling me what I should do, or rather “ shouldn’t do” as a clinically extremely vulnerable person. Basically hibernate until told otherwise!!!!
Keep safe and well everyone and Happy New Year.
