I use double sided sellotape to fix my small cross stitch items into aperture cards. To stop the sides opening up I use the tape on both edges. This uses a lot of tape and even then the cards still come apart slightly and need constant squeezing back again. Does anyone else have this problem or can someone recommend a glue or spray that won't damage the cross stitch or card and is also re-positionable for a short time. It's a lot to ask but I live in hope :)

I always use double sided tape, and I've always had good success with it. It does sometimes need to be squeezed tightly together but its always worked. Good luck

I have found that the tapes tend to lose their stickiness after a while. I use them initially to align my stitching, then use glue. I have three types:
Hi-Tack, Anita's Tacky PVA Glue, and UHU Vielzweckkleber, which I bought in Germany. I find it easiest to use this as the bottle is flat, the nozzle is small and the glue comes out easily. I like the Hi-Tack Glue best really, but have to unscrew the top and apply the glue with a cottonwool bud, because the glue sets hard in the nozzle no matter how hard I try to keep the hole covered. The little rubber cap pops off willynilly. I have to do the same with the Tacky Glue. I find it impossible to squeeze the bottle as it is not flexible enough. It is all very well to have an extra fine nozzle, but it is totally useless if I can't get any glue to come out of it and go where I want it to go.

Thank you for those replies. I think I will try the Hi Tack on some scrap aida and card just to see if it works for me, probably in conjunction with the sellotape. Brigitte, have you tried putting a headed dressmaker's pin into the hole to keep it clear? If it does stick you can grasp the head to pull it out.

Just a word of warning about using Glue in any shape. I found that some glues can leech through the fabric, and can show on the front of the fabric, and if you put too much glue on, it will definitely show through. Thats why I always use double sided tape. Good luck.
