As many of you know, I spent most of the summer in hospital having brain surgery. Well, the pain has gone and, although concentration is a bit of a problem and I frequenttly suddenly go to sleep, and I want to start stitching again.(I've done that bead ladybird, thank you Fiona!) and am looking for ideas. Should I start one of my big special projects, pick up something that needs finishing or do something small? All views, comments, etc welcome!
    Thank you

Oh Alison I had no idea - I hope you are feeling a little better - hugs xxx

Im glad you liked the ladybird - you are a whizz doing it so fast.

I think you should start small.

    Loads of hugs Fiona xxx

Alison, so sorry to hear of your problems. I do hope that everything is getting better now. From what I've been told by my patients, it will improve, but it will take time. Start small - you'll be able to get on doing lots more bigger things as you gradually feel stronger and better. Take care of yourself and I do hope that things will soon be back to normal.

Sorry to hear about your op but glad you are now on the mend.

Could you perhaps stitch some designs for Christmas cards (or is it to early to mention that word?) They would be small projects with a purpose and those who received the cards would be reassured that you were well on the mend.

    All the best,

    maggie

Glad you are back, Alison. I, too, think that small designs for cards or bookmarks would suit best at the moment. If you make a mistake it is not such a pain to correct.
Keep up the good work. Hugs.

Good to hear you are feeling up to doing some stitching. Just adding my support to the Christmas Card suggestion - it's never too early to start!

  7. Hello Alison - wonderful to see you have come through this dreadful ordeal and being so positive. I admire you for thinking about stitching Christmas cards; I get fed up at the thought of writing so many ordinary shop bought efforts (bah humbug - I can hear you all thinking it out there!)

I quite like the bookmark idea though. I have several of these that I've stitched for myself and swap them around for use when I start reading a new book. The covers that Jane sells also means you can keep them wipe-clean AND practice doing twisted cords and tassels to go through the little hole at the bottom of the cover. Brenda

Glad you're feeling better! I always find that if I'm down or stressed I can't concentrate on following anything big or complicated so I mostly do small stuff-Crimbo cards are a good idea, as are book marks, coasters, and if you don't want to follow a pattern, make it easy on yourself and make it up as you go along, any small pattern can be used for something, I've copied patchwork quilt patterns (just coloured squares really)and got some aida band and made up patterns on it, and I know they're unique!
So just chill out with it and do whatever you feel like. lynn

  9. Hello Alison

I'm pleased to hear that you have now had your operation and are on the road to recovery.I've been away for a few days and have only just caught up with the forum. It's good to hear that you feel like stitching again and I agree with the others that it is best to start on something small and gradually build up to a larger project.
It was good meeting up with you at Jane's and look forward to catching up with you again in the future.

    All the best Sally

Firstly, let me thank everyone for their good wishes. It's very comforting to know that so many people care. When you're on your own, hubby at work, it's very easy to feel down, especially when the drugs make you feel awful.
Anyway, I have been thinking about everyones suggestions and what I've decided is to finish my sampler - there's very little left to stitch, and then do small projects, not necessariily Christmas, but an assortment so I always have cards ready when I need to send something quickly. It's so much nicer to receive hand made cards so I intend to have a stash ready to go!
Once again thank you for everyones good wishes. I saw my consultant this week and, although I still have to go for weekly blood tests, I dont have to see him for 3 months!

Finished the Christmas sampler and am now waiting to go to the framers but that might not be till the weekend. Trying to motivate myself to do some cards but find it difficult to concentrate on something new after finishing such a large project!
This forum has gone really quiet. Is that because everybody is too busy stitching to write anything?

  12. Hi Alison

Several of us have been away for the weekend at Bradford on one of Jane's Stitching weekends. We had a marvellous time stitching all of the weekend stopping only to eat and sleep. I am pleased that you have now finished your Christmas Sampler and hope that you will now feel able to start on a smaller project and gradually build up to a larger one.Keep Stitching.

I find that the back-to-work effect after a fab weekend away has stunted all my waffling! That and having used up all my gossip over the three days!
Good news about finishing the sampler. I always think it's best to have a go at some smaller stuff after a big project is completed. Until you find yourself hankering after a major project again.
