  1. Nothing new on the forum for two days - the horrible weather is obviously addling our brains.

I sorted out some wall baskets in the garden Tuesday afternoon chucking away the old summer stuff and putting in some Pansies. Aren't there just some beautiful 'faces' on these lovely flowers and, as we know, they can stitch up wonderfully.

I've decided I'm going to put in some serious time with my UFO's - I seem to have quite a few and am horrified that I've been neglecting them. I'm sure some of you are in a similar situation, so let's all encourage each other to get cracking.

What else is new in my life - oh yes, poor husband is still suffering from his flu jab. I have to say at Yoga class on Tuesday night several ladies seem to be suffering from the same thing. Apparently they are using a new strain in the jabs this year. I must confess I wouldn't have one of the wretched things as I don't believe in them. We all have our own view of course and others may be happy about it.

Went to choir practice last night and warbled away in preparation for this year's Carol Concert. We had a concert last Saturday 'An Evening with Mr. Handel' - it was great although getting out of the car park at the end was very difficult. I was blocked in a corner and had to back out - dark and raining, with someone parked across the back of me. I'd like to know what my blood pressure was by the time I managed to get out. Phew. Not to be repeated.

Can't think of anything funny to say today; must be losing my touch. Oh well, it'll come back; probably need some lunch. After that I hope to sit and stitch for a bit. Am currently doing an entry on my band sampler for our weekend in Bradford. Jane may not realise it but everything we do at these weekends of late has something in it which is just the perfect size for the width of my band; so thank you Jane. This time of course I can use the Queen Stitch section. Practice makes perfect.

Anyway, come on you lot - get your fingers moving on the keys - or perhaps you are all laid low after a flu jab as well...........! Brenda

    Hi Brenda!
It has gone quiet, hasn't it.
I noticed that Aunty Beryl has managed to get back online again. :-)
I haven't done a lot of stitching since I got back from Bradford but I have done a few bits and generally been quite busy.
Last night went out to the cinema with the lads from work to see Skyline. As a consequence I've spent all day today avoiding any web site which might tell me who got fired from the Apprentice. I recorded it and won't see it until this evening!
Tonight, after watching the apprentice, I've got two dance classes. One for Rock and Roll and one Advanced Ballroom and Latin.
    All this energy!

    Hello everyone
I've spent the afternoon lining the little drawstring bag from Bradford with bright red silk - looks quite classy, tho' I say so myself :o). Haven't finished the other Bradford piece yet, I've been side-tracked by Christmas patchwork.
    Energy? What energy??

  4. No wonder the forum's gone quiet - there's Christine head down sewing bright red silk lining into her drawstring bag and Angela probably wearing it in her Latin dance outfit! As for the Apprentice - Angela! - I can recall you saying at Bradford that you check the Guild's website every day and now you say you are avoiding websites that might tell you who's been fired on the Apprentice. Now, just tell me, where is it you 'work' and have they got any vacancies? Sounds like the kind of job I'd like to be in!

In the meantime I haven't seen the Apprentice yet either so I certainly shan't spoil it for you - dumti dumti dumti dumti, dumti dumti die do - do you recognise the tune? Actually, I can't remember if it's Tchaikovsky (however you spell it without checking) or Prokopiev (can't spell that without looking either!)- anyway it's from Romeo and Juliet - the dance of the Cagulet and Montague. Oh, this girl's a mine of useless information, you really needed to know that didn't you.

Anyone bored after paragraph one just don't bother with paragraph two. Brenda

  6. Hi Everyone

You sound busy Brenda, but I am the same. Decided it was time to turn out my UFO's again. Didn't realise that I had so many. I did finish my Bradford project, but lost count of the times that I did reverse stitching.I hope you enjoyed the film Andrea.
I had my flu jab last week, but had no problems ,yesterday I had my pneumonia jab and today I can hardly move my arm plus my arthritis in my hand is playing up so I'm going to have a struggle to stitch, but its not stopped me yet. Thank goodness.I've got too much to do to let it.
I've got some photo's taken at Bradford , which I will email to those of you whose email addresses I have

  7. Christine (and apologies to Andrea!!) - knew I wasn't having a good day - how on earth did I change Andrea to Angela! - but she's lovely, so I suspect she laughed more than anyone else.

Pleased to hear you are okay Sally after your flu jab. The update I have now from two sources is that the reason it is causing some people to feel unwell is because the new strain that's been introduced into it comes from Swine Flu - so if you start growing a curly tail and oinking - you heard it here first!

Lovely weekend to all - at least at the moment the sun is shining (well, in Crewe it is anyway). I'm off to play steam trains at Bridgnorth (via the Hobbycraft shop - I want some wire-edged ribbon). Toodle pip. Brenda

Dear All , Yes Auntie Beryl is back! Christine called round and sorted everything out for me . Wasnt that kind.Carole gave me a pattern for a scarf when we were at Bradford so I bought some of the shaded wool and had a go . I have not knitted for ages , but it is like riding a bike , it all comes back and I have now finished it . It was easier than it looks .I even made a knotted fringe ! However , I still think Crossstitch and embriodery is the best . See you all soon .

Of course, it's quiet in the forum. I have been away. Went to Germany to be with my Mum on my Dad's first anniversary of his death. Not an easy day as they had been together for nearly 65 years. As my other half needed me to be back for a 'do' on the 13th of the month I had to travel both journeys weekdays. I tell you, never again. They were the journeys from hell. On the way out all was going perfectly this side and getting across the channel. Then it all went to pots. A lorry had his trailer cut in half lengthways and shed its load across the lanes, so after 1 1/2 hours after getting off the ferry I still had not crossed the border into Belgium. And later at a time when usually I pull up outside my Mum's place, I was still sitting on the motorway in Belgium waiting to go through the Kennedy Tunnel. Eventually I got to Ranst service station to 'powder my nose' and have a cup of tea (1.90 Euro and that with a 30 cent voucher off. Outrageous, but I would have paid anything at that point). Thank goodness for modern technology so I could text my brother to inform the family of the delay. On the way home, it took me 3 hours 40 mins for the journey that had taken me 7 hours 40 mins on the way out. But my hopes for an easy journey back were dashed after I had checked in at Dunkerque. For the first time ever the ferry was late embarking and leaving port. Despite the strong winds, the captain did a damn good job crossing the channel and I thoroughly enjoyed my lovely lunch and stitching time. The M20 was nearly empty and although the wind made driving less fun I got to the junction for the Dartford crossing in next to no time, after which time stood still. Due to the high winds they had closed the QE2 bridge so all the traffic had to squeeze through one side of the tunnel. I hate trucks!!!! When I was on the near empty (!) M25 I dared only go up to 60mph due to the gusty winds, but some Polish truck driver thought I ought to go faster and, almost getting into my boot, kept flashing me and blowing his horn. When I slowed down to nearly 50 he got the message and overtook me. By the time I got home - the local evening news on ITV Anglia were just finishing - my arms were shaking like mad and I needed a stiff drink to calm down. Fortunately the 'do' on the Saturday was really brilliant. Had it not been, He-who-must-obey would have been a deep doodas.

  10. Hi Brigitte

Good to have you back with us. Sorry that you had such horrific journeys.Nothing much happening at the moment. I think we all need an incentive to get us going. It must be the time of the year.Still I've got my granddaughter coming at the weekend. That will cheer me up, and my husband is taking me out one day next week for shopping and a meal, after which I should be ready for anything I think I'll now tackle some stitching for an hour before bed. Better get going while I'm in the mood.
